Langs de oorsprong van de steenkoolwinning Kerkrade Mijnroute 1

Langs de oorsprong van de steenkoolwinning Kerkrade Mijnroute 1

The city of Kerkrade has always been a mining town in heart and soul, and although the city has kept abreast with the times since the mines closed, and nowadays has much more to offer, the people still proudly boast its mining history. Therefore, in the Year of the Mines (2015), the launch of a beautiful and interesting cycle route along the origins of coal mining, was self-evident.

This route is one out of a series of four, which together cover most of the Western and Eastern Mining District. This route will lead you along mine shaft Nulland, one of the most characteristic landmarks in the region, and stunning, cross-bordering areas of natural beauty: the ‘Pferdelandpark’ and the Worm Valley. You can park at the beautiful and centuries-old Rolduc Abbey, where you can also indulge in a tasty meal at Brasserie ‘De Kanunnik’ afterwards. This route is not signposted, but a separate route description can be downloaded.
