In 2019, it was 75 years since Limburg was liberated from German occupation during WWII. This war also left its traces in the town of Kerkrade. Traces that can still be found: the once heavily guarded border with Germany (in the Nieuwstraat), places where bombers crashed, and several war graves. On this route you cycle past these historical and memorable places. You will learn more about Kerkrade during WWII and may look differently at this town, afterwards. This route largely follows the cycle junction network.
