Vivi Vassileva in het Recycling Concerto

Vivi Vassileva in het Recycling Concerto

;
Are people separate from nature or are people connected to it? Great artists ask great questions, also in music.

Composer and conductor Gregor Mayrhofer wondered how to reuse discarded objects. His Recycling Concerto became a breathtaking concert for ‘of-anything-that-would-other-with-the-waste-land’ and orchestra.

Vivi Vassileva (winner Leonard Bernstein Award 2023) is one of the most talented percussionists of our time. ‘Vassileva climbs all the way ín rhythm; her gestures, facial expressions and her whole body become pure energy,’ wrote the Kölnische Rundschau.

She knows her way around the motley percussion arrangement of discarded pots and pans, glasses and PET bottles, drinks cans, lampshades and saw blades.

In this nature-centred programme, Mayrhofer conducts, completely untainted, a flowing Moldau by Smetana, and Mendelssohn's passion for nature can be heard in his heady Hebrides overture.
